Pentecost is a Christian holiday which takes place after Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles of Jesus while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts.
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting (Acts 2:1-2). Everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus told the Jews to wait in Jerusalem. He said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere” (Acts 1:8). At the time there were devout Jews and other God-fearing gentiles from every nation in Jerusalem. The Jews were amazed and perplexed hearing their own languages being spoken by the believers.
The Holy Spirit was given to make Jesus known. On the day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd that what they saw was predicted long ago by the prophet Joels. “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. And your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy” Acts 2:17-18.
Peter gave the word and was faithful to be a witness for Jesus. When he gave the gospel, those who believed were baptized and the church was formed with 3,000 in all joining the church. When you receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, you receive the Holy Spirit. Have you been faithful to witness for Jesus?
“…we are ambassadors for Christ as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Cor. 5:20-21.
Yes, you are to be used to turn people from darkness to light, from Satan to almighty God.
